Marine Safety

Moved by Liberal Party of Canada (Nova Scotia)

WHEREAS the waters in and around the Cabot Strait, the Northumberland Strati, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and all areas near the Atlantic Coast are vulnerable to mishaps involving marine vessel traffic, whereas these waterways are challenging ones through which to navigate, in order to deal with disasters like that of the MV Miner;

BE IT RESOLVED that the federal government increase and make stricter regulations to hold navigators more accountable and monies more available from the ship owners through such structures as bonds and/or sureties to protect the Atlantic Provinces from environmental damage and the associated costs of clean-up and remediation.
